Courrèges Meets Mies van der Rohe

by MARCY CARMACK | Edit
Upon the suggestion of someone who works for Chloé USA, I went to US #1 Vintage in Chicago. They don't have a website so you just have to go there. I didn't think I was going to find anything because they have a LOT of cowboy boots which happen to be "in" right now but not of interest to me. They had some clothing hanging from the rafters like Chanel but not interested because even at resale, it's overpriced. The owner said he had some things in boxes in the back but I was not hopeful. After pulling enough out of a box, I happened on a classic Courrèges dress from the 60s. Had it dry-cleaned and it was good as new. Aside from buying a unique designer piece, you are helping save the planet by not contributing to the landfills.

My Courrèges dress then inspired me to go to Farnworth House by Mies van der Rohe -- just an hour west of Chicago. All I can say is that it is a spectacular representation of the International Style, Modernist. The photos really don't do it justice.

Any question or comments, I'd love hear from you. mc@marcycarmack.us
